Landmannalaugar, or the "People's Pools," is a vast area of stunning and unique beauty in the heart of Iceland's southern highlands. At one edge of Lanmannalaugar is the Laugahraun lava field, formed during the last eruption of the Torföjkull volcano in the year 1477. A short hike over the lava field was rewarded with this striking landscape. comprised of rhyolite mountains and colored by sulfur, iron, and moss.
